International Movers Sydney

Living in Sydney is great not only because Australia has fantastic beaches, surfing, and reefs. It’s also great because you will have convenient access to several major Australian shipping ports. The closest port to you will be the Port of Botany (sometimes called the Port of Sydney).

While estimating the total costs of your move is best left to the professionals, you can easily get an estimate online for the cost to move a container. Here are some examples to help you estimate your shipping costs: from Sydney to New York City – $11,700-$15,800; from Sydney to Cape Town, South Africa – $8,800 – $14,500.

Here are some of the other things you should know.

Shipping Internationally

Most people ship their belongings by shipping container when they move overseas, and for good reason. It is one of the most cost-effective means of transferring your goods. Air freight is another option of course, but since the cost is based on weight and volume, this method is best for only your most precious, or I suppose, most lightweight, items.

With shipping containers, it doesn’t matter how much your goods weigh, so you are free to bring your whole home gym if you’d like. You can choose between a full container load (FCL) or a less than container load (LCL). For most people, the FCL is the better choice, even if they don’t think they will fill the whole container. That’s because LCLs have a slight disadvantage – you’ll be sharing the container with others, which means more handling and possible delays in transport if the container has to visit other ports of call. For this reason, an LCL might not be worth it to save a couple hundred dollars.

Collecting Necessary Paperwork

The paperwork for international moves can be vexing and confusing. Some countries require you to submit all of your paperwork in advance of your move or inventory present and future shipments all at once. Other countries will make you submit all of your paperwork in their country’s native language, which can make the process even more confusing. Reach out to your new country’s embassy in your home country to get the most up-to-date guidance so you can avoid costly mistakes.

Fortunately, aside from each country’s specific forms, many of the documents you will need to provide are the same no matter where you go. For example, you will need to have a valid passport and visa, as well as vital documents for every member of your family.
