Movers Boston to California

Whether it’s for work reasons or you’re retiring and would prefer California’s better climate, moving from Boston to any area within California can be a long and demanding journey. Also, since it’s a 3,100-mile trip, you need to plan accordingly. Often, it takes at least a week to complete the move.

However, it’s a move you should be very excited about. Although Boston is another radiant city with plenty to do and see, California is a whole new level of exciting. The weather is great pretty much year round, meaning that the outdoor life is much better than Boston for starters.

Additionally, California has arguably the best landscape in the US. The natural beauty allows Californians to enjoy the outdoors even more.

Finding the Right Moving Company

Obviously, you need to first pick a specific place to live. If you don’t have that figured out already, we’d recommend the South California (better known as SoCal) area. It’s where all the fun resides. However, if you’re looking for a cheaper place, Eureka, Stockton, and Sacramento are excellent choices.

After picking a location, you then need to find the right moving company. Since it’s a cross-state move, you’ll need a Boston interstate mover. In addition to being licensed, the best interstate and other long-distance movers are characterized by the following;

  1. Belong to AMSA

The American Movers and Storage Association (AMSA) helps its members boost customer satisfaction by ensuring compliance with federal moving laws a term of membership. All members of AMSA are also registered by the Department of Transportation.

  1. Are insured

Moving insurance protects you in case some of your items are damaged or lost during the move. For instance, imagine if your $5,000 flat screen TV breaks during the move. It happens. If the over is insured, the insurance would cover the damage.

  1. No deposit

Federal laws require movers to charge only for services provided. Therefore, any mover that demands a deposit before the move begins could be a scammer. Instead, nearly all genuine movers request to charge your credit card within two days of the move. Others may also take a cashier’s check on the day of the move.

Keep an Eye Out for Red Flags

Before forking out your hard earned cash, you also want watch out for the following red flags from the moving company;

  • They are not properly licensed: Always ask for the mover’s US DOT number or look them up in the FMCSA system. Any mover that’s not straightforward with this is a non-no.
  • The rates are too good to be true: Even a cheap mover still tries to make a profit. Therefore, a mover with an extremely low rate could be a red flag. Do they have hidden charges?
  • They only offer non-binding estimates: A non-binding estimates leaves the door open for the mover to raise the prices once the actual move begins. Stay away.
  • Plenty of negative online reviews: Every moving company will get negative reviews from time to time. However, if more than half of the reviews are negative, something is wrong.
  • Complaints to the BBB or FMCA: You’ll also know that a 24 hour moving and storage company has question marks on their reliability and trustworthiness if customers are constantly complaining about their services to the Better Business Bureau and FMCSA.

Above all, always ask for references. At least, the moving company should have a few people to vouch for them. If there’s none, run.
