Moving International To Or From Sint Maarten

Sint Maarten is one of five islands that make up the Netherlands Antilles in the Caribbean Sea in french territory, along with Bonaire, Saba, St. Eustatius, and Curaçao. Actually, Sint Maarten is just half of a larger island. The French government owns the northern side of the island, which they call Saint Martin. It can be kind of confusing.

Three Movers is a top-rated international moving company that move people to or from St Martin, the Caribbean island. We serve residents of all nationalities who want to relocate domestically or internationally. We offer a wide range of services, from pickup and delivery of household goods, to completing moving packages.

We can help with anything from a local storage unit to an international move. France occupies a far larger portion of the island than the Netherlands does. We have offices in both Cole Bay and Simpson Bay close to the local airport and port. Our clientele hails from every corner of the globe. We cater to both vacationing tourists and established businesses. Our expert movers are dedicated to providing reliable service while also prioritizing your safety and happiness.

What does it cost to import my household goods to St. Maarten?

The costs associated with an international move can be difficult to figure out on your own. You can easily get quotes for moving a shipping container, but that doesn’t include unexpected fees for storage, handling, or even taxes and duty. Moving a full shipping container from New York to St. Maarten will cost between $7,0000-$9,000. Why the broad range in cost? Because so many intangibles go into international shipping, the only way to get a true cost estimate is to work with an overseas moving company.

Fortunately, your household goods can be imported tax and duty-free if you have owned them for at least six months. Your shipment will be closely inspected by the destination agent when it arrives, but you do not have to be present for the clearance process. If you are hoping to avoid undue scrutiny during this process, make sure that there is nothing about your imports that could raise questions. Customs agents are on the look out for imports that are inconsistent with the social status of the customer.

If you will not be staying in the Netherlands Antilles for at least a year, you will have to leave a deposit to cover duties and annual property taxes.

Customs officials are going to want to see your passport, (whether you are a french citizen or dutch citizen) residence permits and work permits, and a detailed inventory of all imported goods. You will also provide a copy of your bill of lading.

Can I ship my personal vehicle to St. Maarten?

Customer must be present when clearing an automobile through Customs. Used autos are allowed duty free import of owned and used by the customer for few months.

Required Documents:

  • Clean title
  • Proof of purchase
  • Proof of residence in St. Maarten
  • Work permit if applicable

If you are moving to St. Maarten from Europe, Africa, or Asia, your vehicle will need to be mechanically modified. Changes to your steering, acceleration, and braking will be needed for your vehicle to be safely driven on the island. All vehicles on this island are driven on the right hand side, just as in the U.S.

What if I want to start living my island dream now?

Are you ready to be sitting on the beach with a cocktail and a great book or you are willing to start life abroad? We don’t blame you. Three Movers is here to help you get there. Our international shipping experts can help with every step of the process, from packing to customs declarations, so you can start enjoying a stress-free life right away.
