Fortunately, it’s easy to qualify for tax and duty-free imports of your household goods. As long as you have owned your items for at least six months and have lived in your home country for at least one year, you can import most household goods without additional expenses. What’s the catch? The catch is that any of your goods that were imported tax and duty-free cannot be lent, sold, rented, or otherwise assigned to another person for at least a year after you arrive in Slovakia.
You must obtain your EORI (Economic Operators Registration and Identification) number from customs authorities in Slovakia in order to import goods.
Here are some of the documents you will need:
- Passport (Note: In Slovakia, every person over the age of 15 is required to have their passport with them at all times.)
- Proof of residence in Slovakia such as a lease or rental contract
- Bill of lading
- Detailed, box-by-box inventory of your shipment with serial numbers
- Power of Attorney to empower the necessary officials to process your shipment
- Proof of employment in Slovakia
Can you import a vehicle to Slovakia?
In order to be eligible to import to Slovakia, your vehicle must be one that you have owned for at least six months. You will be asked to provide documents for your vehicle including:
- Clear title with no liens
- Vehicle registration from country of origin
- Driver’s license
- International auto insurance policy
- Bank guarantee
What if I’m an EU citizen?
If you are a citizen of the European Union, you are free to live and move freely into and out of Slovakia.
